With barely ten months to the eagerly awaited August 2022 general elections in Kenya,the political terrain is abuzz with hightened political activities.The race and contest that has attracted the attention of millions of Kenyans is the presidential tussle.
Several politicians have thrown themselves in the ring for the presidential contest.Among the many possible contenders,the two most fierce horses seem to be Deputy President William Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Amolo Odinga.The two have taken their presidential bids a notch higher as compared to the rest.
Others in the race are Amani National Congress Party Leader Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi,Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka,KANU Chairman Gideon Moi,Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, Murang'a Governor Hon Mwangi Wa Iria among host of others.
As this race heats up,an online opinion poll conducted by 254 EAST TV has shown that Deputy President William Ruto is still leading in the presidential race should Elections be held today.113,758 Kenyans voted in this poll.
DP Ruto got 59,000 votes which was equivalent to 52% of the total votes.ODM party leader Raila Amolo Odinga emerged second with 40% after getting 46,000 of the votes.ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi came third at 6% with 6700 votes,Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka was fourth at 1% with 1300 votes and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi was fourth at 0.6% with 758 votes.
The poll has clearly indicated that should Elections be held today,William Ruto could emerge victorious in first round suparssing the 50%+1 threshold.
