It's nothing new to see a news anchor or journalist transit and become a powerful politician. Several former Journalists than are successful in politics include Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju and Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, naming just but a few.
The latest trending News Anchor who is thought to be eyeing for an MP seat come 2022 is Senior Anchor at Citizen TV Trevor Ombija. Posters circulating social media showed Ombija’s smiling face on a motorbike reflector.
The message on the posture read, “Ombija Tayaa," which is translated as "Ombija the lamp.” Speaking to Kenya.co.ke news, the journalist revealed that he had seen the posture and was overwhelmed at the gesture of the people of Nyakach.
He, however, revealed that he hadn't announced his candidature or wasn't ready to abandon Journalism. 'It is early to make that decision in any shape or form. Right now, I am just a journalist on TV, and that is what I want to focus on right now. Running has party affiliations. I am not a member of any party. It is the people who have chosen me because they never thought one of their own would end up on TV," said Trevor Ombija.
President Uhuru Kenyatta recently awarded the journalist the head of the state commendation in 2020.
