The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati while addressing election preparedness has confirmed that IEBC is an independent institution. He said that IEBC is not directed by any individual, constitution or authority. Chebukati stated that they are answerable only to the constitution.

"IEBC has prepared for these elections more than ever before. We will ensure that we have a transparent process; we are going to give Kenyans free, fair and credible elections." Wafula Chebukati stated.

After Chebukati made the address at a meeting in Nairobi, he left in a hurry to go to JKIA where it has emerged that he will be receiving the ballot papers for the August 9 General Election. This however comes at a time when there are claims by the Azimio team that Kenya Kwanza had allegedly plotted to rig the election.
