Raila Not Assured of The Presidency as Kanini Kega Now Makes Interesting Remark

ODM leader Raila Odinga is not assured of the presidency merely by getting the Mt Kenya vote next year, Kieni MP Kanini Kega has said.

Kega is among the Mt Kenya leaders who have been working with the former Premier, as he seeks the region's vote to boost his winning chances.

He on Sunday said that regarding the Mt Kenya vote, Raila is getting there, but added that he will have to do more if he is to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He stated that the region alone cannot make the leader President and he will have to retain his traditional support bases as well to win.

"The moment he gets the vote and retains his traditional voting bloc I have no doubt he will become the President," the lawmaker said in Nairobi, as was reported by NTV on its Sunday 7pm bulletin.

He is among the leaders who accompanied Raila for his rallies in Kasarani, Mwiki and Njiru areas.

The lawmaker claimed that as of now, Raila has about 60 percent of the Mt Kenya vote, which will increase after he officially launches his bid on Friday.

"I know we are currently at about 60 percent, by the time he does the formal announcement we will shoot to 80 percent," added the vocal legislator.

His remarks come at a time when Raila is now being seen receiving warm reception whenever he visits Mt Kenya, after years of being seen as unwanted there.

This has been despite efforts by allies of Deputy President William Ruto to turn the people against him by trying to portray the region as a Ruto turf.
