Shaping The Mountain: Martha Karua Meets Justin Muturi And Kibwana Over Coalition Talks

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua welcomes today, Saturday 23, three presidential candidates in Kirinyaga County.

She will meet with the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, the Governor of Makueni Kivutha Kibwana and Dr Mukhisa Kituyi at the Starwood Hotel Kerugoya.

The four leaders are expected to have coalition talks ahead of the 2022 elections. They are also expected to sign a pre-election deal.

Sources told People Daily Digital that Karua, spokesperson for the Mount Kenya Unity forum, is positioning himself for the post of vice chair of the coalition.

The invitation seen by People Daily Digital says they will also discuss the unity of Mount Kenya and Kenya in general.

The meeting comes barely a month after Mukhisa, Muturi and Kibwana unveiled a political movement dubbed Muungano Wa Wazalendo. The leaders were greeted by the governor of Makueni, Kivutha Kibwana.

The Kirinyaga meeting comes at a time when Karua faces criticism from the New Democratic (TND) who accuses him of not focusing on the unity of the Mount Kenya region.

TND National President Thuo Mathenge says Karua is no longer focusing on the unity of the Mount Kenya region and has sent mixed signals to the Mt Kenya Unity Forum.

Thuo, who said his party has withdrawn from the forum, also claimed that there is a group of leaders within the forum who are only interested in their selfish gains.

"The TND party is no longer part of the Mount Kenya Unity forum, we left long ago after realizing that the group lacked leadership because some party leaders had personal interests," Thuo said.
