Rigathi, Sonko, Waiguru, Babu Owino Should Not Be Cleared To Vie, NIA Tells IEBC

Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential aspirant Rigathi Gachagua, former Nairobi Governor and Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Mike Sonko, Kiringaga Governor Ann Waiguru, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, former Nairobi MP Evans Kidero, and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi have been flagged as being unfit for election by National Integrity Alliance (NIA).

While making this announcement today on Sunday, NIA said that it's determined to bar all leaders who have questionable integrity from getting into public offices and moreso in the upcoming general elections.

​​“We have been closely monitoring key developments in regard to the enforcement of Chapter 6 of the Constitution on leadership and integrity. With the 9 th August 2022 general elections drawing closer, we note that various political formations have nominated candidates to vie for elective seats, and various individuals have also presented themselves to contest as independent candidates,” NIA said in a statement.

With specific stress put on Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who is a deputy presidential aspirant, NIA said that Mr Gachagua has several graft cases which are still ongoing and shouldn't be allowed to rub for any public office until he's cleared. Also cited in Gachagua's charges was the conspiracy to defraud Nyeri County government millions of shillings.

Others who have also been mentioned by NIA include: Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, garissa gubernatorial aspirant Ali Korane, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, Kumilili MP Didmus Barasa, former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, Sirisia MP John Walukhe, Laikipia MP Mathew Lempurkel, former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, Phillip Kaloki Nairobi county deputy gubernatorial aspirant and several others.
