According to data obtained from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) website, the former prime minister garnered seventy percent or more of valid votes in more than ten counties.
As the August 2022 presidential election draws near, I have gathered 10 counties where I think the ODM leader will comfortably outperform his arch rival DP William Ruto. These counties are as discussed in the sub-headings below.
Being in the Nyanza region, many political analysts rightly consider this county as a Raila Odinga stronghold. The ODM leader performed extremely well in this region in past three elections.
Therefore, it's very unlikely that the voters from Homa Bay County will change their voting pattern in favour of DP Ruto.
2 Migori County
In recent years, Deputy President William Ruto has been making a number of tours to Migori County in a bid to persuade the voters there to dump Raila and join his Hustler Nation brigade.

In my opinion, I think that's an exercise in futility. I am still of the view that the DP will lose terribly to Raila Odinga in Migori.
Unlike Homa Bay and Migori, Mombasa is largely a metropolitan county. However, I still think Raila Odinga will maintain his political dominance in the county.

Since the 2007 elections, the ODM supremo has controlled the politics of Mombasa. With Hassan Joho ceding his presidential ambitions for his ODM boss, I think Raila will beat DP Ruto hands down in 2022 presidential polls.
Keeping in mind that our politics are largely local and tribal, we expect Kisumu County voters to overwhelmingly vote for Raila Odinga in 2022.

Busia County has been one of the loyal counties to ODM and its leader Raila. As a result, many expect the opposition chief to easily beat Mr Ruto in Busia.
Siaya is the home county of Raila Odinga. Just like many expect DP Ruto to receive overwhelming majority votes in his home county of Uasin Gishu, I expect Mr Odinga to easily win in Siaya.
Since 2007, Kakamega has been the political 'bedroom' of Raila. Even the Jubilee forays into the county in 2017, the duo of Uhu-Ruto still lost badly to Raila. As 2022 approaches, Mr Odinga is still expected to show political dust to DP Ruto.
Vihiga County has overwhelmingly voted for Raila Odinga in the past three presidential elections. It's only in 2013 where the former prime minister didn't get eight percent or more of votes from Vihiga. This was because Musalia Mudavadi, who hails from the county, was also on the ballot.

The ANC party leader is also likely to compete for the presidency in 2022. There have been rumours from some quarters that Musalia might support DP Ruto. Regardless of what happens, I still think Raila will easily beat DP In the county.
9 Taita Taveta
With the support of local and county leaders, Raila Odinga still remains the most preferred candidate in the Taita Taveta.
Raila Odinga received overwhelming majority votes from Kilifi County in the 2017 polls. Although a number of leaders from the county have since parted ways with Raila, political pundits still view Kilifi as Odinga's backyard.
