IEBC Commissioner In Hot Soup Over Mathematical Error During Press Briefing

Yesterday,the Chairperson of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the National Returning Officer for the presidential election Wafula Chebukati announced William Samoei Ruto as the President-Elect in the just concluded general election on 9th this month.

The newly elected President garnered 7,176,141 votes which represents 50.49% defeating Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance candidate Raila Odinga who garnered 6,942,930 votes representing 48.85%.Wajackoyah came third as David Mwaure came fourth with 0.44% and 0.23% respectively.

Four IEBC Commissioners led by Vice Chair Cherera disowned the results citing the opaque nature of Commission in handling the presidential election.

Today,the four Commissioners held another press briefing giving detailed information on why they rejected results announced by Chebukati.In their statement,they said that the percentages is above 100% as they gave 100.01% as the total percentage of the vote cast with 142,131 votes added in question.

However,Mathematicians were quick to calculate the 0.01% and they came up with 1,421 votes as compared to Cherera's statement of 142,131 votes.Here are some of the reactions;
