What Will it Take to Impeach Moses Kuria? A Section of MPs Want to Do This

CS Industrialization and Trade Moses Kuria has found himself in mucky waters following his sentiments and actions on the whole issue of genetically modified maize.

The comments have elicited a public outcry where members of the public have registered their displeasure following his take on the anticipated entry of the controversial genetically modified maize.

A section of leaders has had their say as to why the move to allow this maize will negatively impact the lives of Kenyans.

The lawmakers led by Pokot South MP David Pkosing want the CS impeached over his stand on the importation of genetically modified maize into the country.

On Wednesday 23rd November, a section of MPs will start collecting signatures that will see them table an impeachment motion against the CS.

For him to be impeached, an MP should present an impeachment motion before the national assembly.

The motion should be supported by at least one-quarter of MPs. If there was a gross violation of the constitution or any law, then the impeachment will hold ground.

If he also committed a crime under international law or gross misconduct, then the next stage will come in: an impeachment motion that will be adopted and supported by at least one-third of MPs.

The house will then proceed by appointing an 11-member committee to probe claims. The committee will then table a report before the national assembly within 10 days.

If the allegations are unsubstantiated, then there will be no further proceedings taken. During the probe, the CS has the right to appear and be represented before the committee during the probe.

If the allegations are substantiated, parliament shall allow the CS to be heard. A vote will then be cast to approve the impeachment motion.

The speaker shall then forward the resolution to the president for action where he will dismiss the Cabinet Secretary.
