In a show of solidarity, members of the 'Murang'a County Politics' WhatsApp group have come out to stand in solidarity with Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace "City" Nduta as she appeared before a hearing regarding a comment she made on the group's chat.
According to reports, Nduta found herself in hot water after allegedly criticizing her colleagues for their lackluster oversight role, highlighting misplaced priorities following a heated debate on the Murang'a government's performance in the county assembly.
During the hearing, chaired by Speaker Johnson Mukuha, Nduta addressed the Murang'a County Powers and Privileges Committee. She revealed that Majority Leader Kibe wa Sarry and his deputy, Liz Muthoni, attempted to intimidate her after the debate.
"It is on record that Kinyona MCA Liz Mbugua and Kibe wa Sarry made threats against me through my phone on the material day. I was accused of talking too much on WhatsApp group because I was engaging my people and the public to bear with the government because we have not received any funds but instead, the MCAs accused me of tarnishing their names. I told the committee that I will still continue standing with my people and speak on matters affecting them. We should not be condemned because social media is the most appropriate mode of communication in most institutions," the MCA stated," Nduta stated
Other MCAs present accused Nduta of disrespect and expressed concerns that her comments could negatively impact the public's perception of their performance.
Accompanied by her supporters, who rallied behind her during the hearing, Nduta maintained that she had the right to express her views, which could contribute to the much-needed revitalization of the struggling health sector.
Speaker Mukuha announced that the committee would convene a meeting after the plenary session and deliver its verdict within a period of 14 days.
