Isaac Mwaura: A Man With Nine Lives Once Again faces PSC Panel as He Seeks Lifeline in Government

Former nominated senator and Ruiru parliamentary aspirant Isaac Maigua Mwaura

Imagine surviving in the unforgiving Kenyan political arena, legislature for that matter, for over 10 years despite not winning any competitive seat. That is the interesting life of Isaac Maigua Mwaura, a shrewd politician and a perfect fit to the saying 'cat with nine lives'.

As interviews for chief administrative secretary positions kickoff today, Isaac Mwaura is a man to be watched as he is the most notable candidate slotted to be interviewed on day one.

Mwaura who boasts of remarkable ability to survive in the murky waters of politics is once again facing the huddle, (PSC) as he seeks to get a lifeline in the Kenya Kwanza government following a failed parliamentary aspiration in Ruiru constituency, and a subsequent blow when he failed to feature in the list of shortlisted candidates for principal secretary positions despite entering his application.

Since his entry into the world of politics, Mwaura has been a special character who at one point was referred to by his political adversaries as jinxed after his career in elective politics failed to take off simultaneously. However, amid the disappointments, he has been surviving in the political scene courtesy of nominations to the National assembly and the Senate by different political parties.

Between 2013 and 2017, Mwaura became the first member of parliament with albinism after he was nominated by the ODM party having dutifully served as a senior adviser to former prime minister Raila Odinga between 2010 and 2012 on public policy on special interest groups.

In the run-up to the 2017 general elections, Mwaura in the most controversial manner ditched Orange Democratic Movement party and joined Jubilee Party. In April 2017, he participated in Jubilee Party primaries as a candidate for Ruiru Constituency Parliamentary seat but did not secure the party nomination.

Amid the uncertainty that came with his loss in nominations, Mwaura got a lifeline by joining Uhuru Kenyatta's presidential campaign team as one of the chief campaigners and a strategist. He was later rewarded as a nominated Senator by Jubilee Party in 2017 to represent Persons with Disabilities in the Senate.
