National assembly speaker Justin Muturi is in Meru County for a two-day political tour. Meru county is one of three counties in Mount Kenya East region. The assembly speaker hails from the region.
Yesterday the assembly speaker graced the gubernatorial launch of Meru women representative Kawira Mwangaza in Meru. The women representative is vying for the gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate.
Currently speaker Justin Muturi is meeting Meru leaders and opinion shapers from all Meru county constituencies. Grassroot leaders from the county are also in attendance. Meru senator Mithika Linturi who is a member of UDA party and his team are also present.
Speaking in the consultative meeting, the UDA allied senator Mithika Linturi urged the national assembly speaker Justin Muturi to shelve his presidential bid in favour of deputy president William Ruto.
Senator Mithika Linturi invited speaker Muturi to join Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by deputy president William Ruto. He further promised the national assembly speaker the running mate slot if he joins the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
Kenya Kwanza Alliance is yet to settle on its preferred running mate to deputize William Ruto in the forthcoming elections. Mathira legislator Rigathi Gachagua and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi are the most preferred running mates.
The outspoken Meru senator urged Democratic party supporters to support his Meru gubernatorial bid on a UDA party ticket. He promised to deliver once elected as the third governor of Meru County. He is keen on unseating governor Kiraitu Murungi who is seeking reelection on a Devolution empowerment party ticket.
Speaker Justin Muturi is eyeing for presidency under his Democratic party ticket. The party endorsed him as the party presidential candidate last month during its national delegates conference at Bomas of Kenya.
