There has been serious debates among among Kenyans on whether the Mt Kenya communities will have their own presidential candidate come 2022. Some argue that it is right for Mt Kenya to give other tribes that opportunity and others claim that Kenya is a democratic nation and therefore any community can produce a candidate.
It is believed that the Agikuyu will exit power for the next thirty years, as Prof Mutahi Ngunyi says, and hence not eligible to produce a presidential candidate. Is it possible for the Gikuyu to stay out of government for that long? The Gema will produce a candidate. Peter Kenneth, former Kiambu governor William Kabogo and former Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri have been seen as probable successor to Uhuru Kenyatta. They too are eying for the president and therefore there is a high probability that they will be contesting for presidency in 2022.
There has disagreement among Mt Kenya Kenya people who believe that it would be an injustice for Uhuru to betray Dr Ruto. Most of these Gikuyu support Ruto's candidature.
