This is mainly due to the fact that all key political bigwigs have been reluctant to join his Hustler Nation movement.
His allies have been on record further alleging that there are schemes being plotted behind the scenes to frustrate Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions.
Ruto has today alleged a new plot that is being schemed by his opponents to finish him completely as the elections approach.
As established by the Daily Nation today, the second in command has now revealed that plans are in top gear to create regional kingpins to deny him the president in 2022.
According to Ruto, there are people who are now racing against time to please regional kingpins and tribal chiefs whom they believe would be a shortcut for them to get power.
Ruto has however delivered bad news to his opponents by telling them that the country's problem is not ethnicity but rather the economy which he has promised to rebuild once elected president in 2022.
