Flanked by Azimio principals Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka a tough-talking Raila demanded that the Ruto administration think of ways to reduce cost of basic commodities particularly restoring subsidies to unga, fuel, school fees and electricity.
in a 12-point joint resolution read by Minority Leader James Opiyo Wandayi, the forum said: "We have resolved that the Ruto regime be made to immediately restore and enhance the subsidies in the area of social safety in the form of cash transfer to the elderly, pesa ya wazee and Linda Mama that covered maternal issues for economically disadvantaged mothers which have since been withdrawn".
Mammoth crowds at Kamukunji grounds on Wednesday 7 December 2022.
Other points in the ultimatum issued to President Ruto stated:
—Restore subsidies to unga, fuel, school fees and electricity by January 2023
—Restore and enhance cash transfers to the elderly and vulnerable
—Enhance the Linda Mama Programme to protect pregnant mothers
—Institute discipline, order and clarity in its Cabinet ministers’ declarations
—Embark on an inclusive and consultative process to reconstitute IEBC
—Ensure ethnic and regional balance in State, Civil Service appointments
—Restore Kazi Mtaani project
—Permanently discard plans to import Genetically Modified Foods and seeds
—Constitute Hustler Fund in line with the law, and the correct legislation with no threats to the youth.
The immensely popular pesa kwa wazee social welfare program has been withdrawn to be replaced by the loaning scheme, Hustler Fund.
The forum resolved that if by January 2023 the government had not implemented terms of the ultimatum then, "Kenyans will be free to take such steps as they may deem fit to ease the burden of the yoke upon their shoulders."
