The Kikuyu Council of Elders' plan to bring former President Uhuru Kenyatta and President William Ruto together has not gone down well with Kenyatta and Dr Ruto's supporters. This comes after UDA and Jubilee leaders insisted that the energy expended to re-unite the two leaders be directed instead toward the country's economic recovery. On Monday, President William Ruto's allies told a local daily that after Uhuru Kenyatta's political move to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the presidency in August 2022 failed, Mt Kenya allegedly forgot about the former president. The people of the Mt Kenya Region, according to Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe, have moved on and have already recognized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as the new political kingpin.
Kagombe then attacked Uhuru Kenyatta, questioning who he is to Mt Kenya. Kagombe slammed Uhuru, claiming that they have no business with him. "When it comes to Mount Kenya, who is Uhuru these days? We've moved on, and the region's kingpin is Rigathi Gachagua, so we no longer do business with Uhuru Kenyatta. We never cared about Mwai Kibaki after he left office because we are the Kikuyu people "Gabriel Kagombe stated. Those who advocate for reconciliation between the Head of State and the former president, according to Kagombe, are Uhuru supporters.
The Gatundu South legislator went on to criticize the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition for refusing to listen to them during the campaigns. According to Kagombe, Raila's Mt Kenya supporters were warned by Kenya Kwanza that Azimio would not win the presidential election. He also stated that reuniting Uhuru and Ruto is not a priority.
