The political drumbeats are getting louder and louder as we are approaching the general elections in 2022.Uasin Gishu County is not exempted from the rising political temperatures.Aspirants who are eying different political seats have already started early campaigns.
The gubenatorial seat in particular has attracted very strong candidates so far, no one in the list can be underestimated.Since Deputy President, William Samoei Ruto comes from the North Rift County, we expect that the United Democratic Alliance's candidate will clinch the seat. This with time, might not be the case as things might change very fast.
As of now, five notable figures in Uasin Gishu's politics have declared their interests in the top seat of the county and they include: Jonathan Bii (Chelilim), Ambassador Bitok, Nairobi County CEC Veska Kangogo,Businessman Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop (Buzeki) and Soy MP Caleb Kosiany.
The four I have mentioned except for Buzeki are hoping that they will use UDA party's ticket as a vehicle to the gubenatorial seat come next year. This is where the problem comes in, they will have to face each other in the party's primaries despite the fact that all of them are very strong, politically.
When one of them will lose in the primaries, the other three might resort to shifting their loyalty to other parties or even become independent candidates. This will bring about splitting of votes as every candidate undoubtedly has their backyard. This is where the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) candidate, Buzeki will come in and smoothly garner majority of the votes.
