He described the family matriach as one of the great people in Kenya's history as she took a great role in ensuring that Kenya was free from the British colonizers.
"She was a freedom fighter in her own right. Kimathi led the armed struggle for independence. The role played by Mau Mau fighters has not been fully appreciated by the political class," said Raila.
Raila also recalled the petition he made to the British government for them to compensate freedom fighters who ultimately apologized for their misdoings and thus as a result offered to build a monument at the freedom corner.
According to Raila, many freedom fighters are still languishing in poverty despite the sh. 60 million promise from Jubilee government who have failed to deliver. He said Uhuru Kenyatta has failed the fighters but in his government, he will consider them much.
