Defection looming as senator Kamar and three other senior Riftvalley leaders meets Raila in Karen

Today former prime minister Raila Odinga hosted a delegation at his official residence in Karen.

The consultative meeting was attended by four senior Riftvalley leaders and several Azimio La Umoja movement allied leaders.

Riftvalley region leaders present included Uasin Gishu senator Margret Kamar, former Aldai member of parliament Sally Kosgei, former inspector general David Kimaiyo and gender chief Administrative secretary Linah Chebii Kilimo.

Senator Margret Kamar was elected on a Jubilee party ticket in 2017 polls. She has not yet announced the political party she will be using to seek reelection. Kamar is currently the deputy speaker in the senate.

Former inspector general David Kimaiyo vied for Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial seat in 2017 on a KANU party ticket. He was later trounced down by the incumbent Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen who won on a Jubilee party ticket.

Agenda of today's meeting was not disclosed. The leaders might be planning defecting to Raila Odinga led Azimio La Umoja movement. The leaders are among senior Riftvalley leaders opposing deputy president William Ruto presidential bid.

Other leaders allied to Azimio La Umoja movement in attendance included Mombasa governor Hassan Joho, Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui, Elgeyo Marakwet governor Alex Tolgos and Suna East legislator Junet Mohammed.
