Ruto's Senator Refuses to Support Him, Names Who She Will Vote For in August

Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar has revealed why she is not seeking to defend her seat or vie for any other post in the August general election.

Kamar says that she has something bigger to do, and has decided not to vie and focus her might and efforts towards helping Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga win the seat in the poll.

She says that she will camp in the Rift Valley region, alongside other area leaders allied to Raila, to drum up support for the ticket bringing together the former Prime Minister and his running mate Martha Karua.

Speaking in Eldoret on Saturday, the politician stated that with every indication pointing at Raila carrying the day ultimately, the region has no business supporting any other person for the top seat.

“We want to be part of the next government and for sure it’s now evident that the 5th President of Kenya will be Odinga," she said as is quoted by The Star.

Interestingly, her county doubles up as the home county of Deputy President William Ruto, the other leading contender in the contest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto is also considered the Rift Valley kingpin. Kamar made the remarks when she joined 700 leaders and professionals from Elgeyo Marakwet County who endorsed Raila as best man to take over from Uhuru.

The team was led by its Patron and former CEO of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital John Kibosia, who said that the region and the entire country is safer in the hands of Raila and Karua.

“We know Odinga has demonstrated his commitment and love for this country and his choice of Martha Karua as a running mate makes them the safe hands for the leadership of this county," he said.

Elgeyo Marakwet, being part of the larger Rift Valley region, is considered a bastion of Ruto, with the endorsement now being seen as a big blow for him.
