"Avoid National Shame" Azimio Instructs Its MPs to Reject These Cabinet Secretaries Nomination

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya One Kenya Coalition party has urged its legislators to oppose the nomination of several candidates for Cabinet secretaries who are involved in legal disputes.

On Tuesday, September 27, President William Ruto introduced his cabinet, which included Aisha Jumwa and Mithika Linturi, who both have pending legal issues. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, a principle at Azimio, questioned the justification for choosing Cabinet members like Jumwa, who are involved in legal disputes, during a press conference on Friday, September 30.

To prevent embarrassment on a national and international scale, he advised Ruto to revoke his nominations.

"What are you asking our parliamentarians to do? Honestly. You want to compromise them with money and actually approve people with criminal cases. If I was William Ruto, I'd withdraw some of these to avoid national and international shame. We shall direct our MPs to withhold approval of those who do not meet the Chapter Six threshold of our Constitution," he said during the presser in which he was flanked by 19 MPs.

Regarding Jumwa, who is accused of murder and graft, as well as Agriculture Cabinet nominee Linturi, who is accused of indecent behavior among other things Kalonzo was speaking.

On October 22, 2020, Jumwa and Otieno entered a not-guilty plea in relation to the suspected murder of Ngumbao. On October 14, 2020, Jumwa was charged with the murder after receiving the go-ahead from Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
