Business virtually came to a standstill as deputy president William Samoei Ruto made a tour of parts of Nairobi which took in Waithaka and Kabiria in Dagoretti South Constituency.
In his entourage were some 30 Members of Parliament from Nairobi County.
The DP explained that contrary to the criticisms of his rivals the wheelbarrow conversation was about people and their enterprises. Carefully skirting round the thorny issue of lawlessness among bodaboda riders Ruto simply said the movement is aimed at empowering the 'makanga', bodaboda, mtu ya mjengo and the Mama mboga.
He took a swipe as usual at Raila for his fixation with the BBI which only aims at consolidating power among few and rewarding some people positions on tribal lines.
Lately the Hustlers' narrative has given rise to a silent war in society where anyone perceived to be wealthy is referred to as a "dynasty" and anyone poor a "hustler". Since the poor always outnumber the rich this has led to great injury and loss of property as the hustler bodaboda riders target other road-users.
If the crowds who turned out in Dagoretti South are anything to go by the Hustlers' narrative is a reality that needs to be addressed before it turns into a revolution.
