president Dr William Ruto has now come out to explain the punishment that befell his boss president Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga for pursuing 2022 selfish political goals.
According to Dr Ruto, Uhuru and Raila were penalized by God for working on selfish interests instead of capitalizing on addressing real issues facing Kenyans. He argued that God punished them for misusing the authority he gave them.
While speaking at church event in Mwea, Kirinyaga county on Sunday, the DP asserted that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum advanced by the duo was destined to flop because its objective was to reward the elite and politicians with government leadership positions while doing very little to alleviate the high poverty level in the country.
"That was the punishment we receive from God for misusing the authority that we have been given as leaders," said Dr Ruto.
Dr Ruto, however, opined that it was not too late for the Kenyan government to change priorities, now that the BBI referendum, which had drawn the attention of the entire country has flopped. He urged his boss to consider resuming implementation of the big four agenda.
He averred that he and his allies had attended the church service to thank God for standing with Kenyans through courts of law which threw out BBI. Also, he claimed that he gone to the same precincts for a fundraising event of the church.
This follows after the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court's ruling that nullified the BBI referendum bill for lacking legitimacy. The appeal was launched by proponents of BBI who included Uhuru, Raila and their associates.
