Parliament Adjourns Prematurely After Chaos Broke

After the speaker declared the Kenya Kwanza Alliance to be the majority party in parliament and the Azimio coalition to be the minority party, mayhem ensued. The speaker then named Kimani Ichung'wa as the leader of the majority, with Owen Baya, a representative from Kilifi North, as his deputy.

Wetangula chose Opiyo Wandayi, an Unguja member of parliament, to be the leader of the minority. Robert Mbui, a Kathiani member of parliament, will be his deputy.

Parliamentarians from the Azimio coalition challenged this decision by the speaker and attempted to file an appeal. However, the speaker denied this appeal, resulting in mayhem.

Some members attempted to seize control of the mess and confronted the sergeant at arms. The speaker's efforts to restore order to the room were ineffective. Speaker Wetangula then adjourned the assembly till Tuesday of the following week.
