According to K24 TV, the campaign van belonging to Trans Nzoia gubernatorial candidate, Chris Wamalwa was allegedly set a blaze after being involved in an accident, that claimed the life of a female pedestrian on Wednesday night.
Our reputable sources indicate that, angry residents of Kiminini consistency confronted the van on the grounds that it knocked down an unknown female pedestrian killing her on the spot. This triggered the residents who reportedly set the vehicle on fire.
Confirming the incident, Kiminini sub county police commander, John Oditi claimed that the vehicle fell in a ditch and claimed the life of the woman. Otherwise the authorities managed to reach at the scene of the accident and secure the area few moments after the van was burned down. The driver managed to survive and is currently recuperating injuries at Kitale County hospital.
Nonetheless Member of Parliament for Kiminini Constituency Chris Wamalwa has since condoned via his Twitter account by saying "My condolences to the family and friends of the late Florence Apondi, who died following a grisly road accident, involving one of my campaign vehicles"
However, the rate of accidents caused by campaign vehicles has gone up in a worrying manner. This accident comes barely a week after a campaign vehicle belonging to Rigathi Gachagua was involved in a horrible accident in Kieni Nyeri County.
