CJ Koome skips MPs induction after Azimio threatened to walk out

On Monday, Chief Justice Martha Koome was absent from the induction of members of the National Assembly and was represented by President of the Court of Appeal, Daniel Musinga.

Koome was scheduled to speak to the 13th Parliament about the interconnections and interdependence of Parliament and the Judiciary. In the morning, a group of Azimio MPs threatened to walk out on the CJ over their dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court ruling that upheld President Willliam Ruto's victory.

What Azimio MPs said:

The parliamentarians, led by Wilberforce Oundo of Funyula and Jared Okelo of Nyando, claimed they were offended by the Chief Justice's words in the judgment of rejecting the Azimio plea. They said they were dissatisfied and believed whatever Chief Justice Martha Koome was bringing to the induction was "hot air" and full of false hypotheses and therefore claimed they weren't going to be in the presentation.

The National Assembly's week-long induction training got underway on Monday. The induction is currently taking place in the Safari Park Hotel and will end on September 24, 2022, on a Saturday. The legislators were supposed to arrive at the Safari Park Hotel by Sunday night, per the schedule provided by the Office of the Clerk. They will be given a tour of their responsibilities, the state of the economy that is highly spotted by Kenyans, diplomacy, and reputation on Monday. A facilitator from the Directorate of Legislative and Procedural Services will walk the MPs through the House Rules and Procedures on Tuesday. As the members start to fulfill their jobs, they will also be introduced to several topics, including security issues. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the MPs will be acclimated to the guidelines and methodology of the House, the budget process and public finances, and the detailing of regulations before the workshop is closed on Saturday.
