Reuben Kigame, a presidential candidate, has stated that "we will not be silenced. "Kigame, who did not qualify to run for the country's top office, said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) implemented the legislation discriminatorily, speaking at the Safina Party headquarters on Tuesday."
"Chebukati and the team will interpret the law as they see fit. They will utilize restrictions to filter out candidates they don't want on the ballot," he said. He went on to say that he was not even on the list of individuals who were disqualified from running for State House. "We are not going to be silenced. I'm here to represent people with disabilities for the long run."
Jimi Wanjigi, who, like Kigame, was barred from running due to a lack of a degree certificate among other issues, believes the President is to blame. He claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta is aiming to stay in power beyond the August 9 elections, citing the vicious attempt to silence any voice that is going to block the path of illegally remaining in office. " Should the Safina presidential flagbearer not appear on the ballot," Wanjigi's running mate, lawyer Willis Otieno, threatened the IEBC a battle royale.
