Ruto has extensive political experience, including serving as President Uhuru Kenyatta's deputy for two terms after winning the general elections in 2013 and 2017.
However, because President Uhuru Kenyatta has already fired him as a result of the popular Uhuru-Raila political handshake in 2018, the second-in-command may not gain any votes.
DP Ruto needs a running mate from the Central area if he wants to keep the rich in votes.
A more outspoken running partner from Central Kenya would be a significant advantage for Vice President William Ruto, given the area has yet to nominate a candidate for the 2022 presidential election. A running partner from Central Kenya will witness a repetition of what happened in the 2013 and 2017 elections, therefore another version of the Uhuru-Ruto political chemistry will be observed with a running mate from this region.
The alternative rationale is more technical, in which the Central Kenya area is extremely important in Kenya's presidential election since it has single-handedly supported three of Kenya's four presidents (Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta). President Moi had to go to the Central Kenya region for a Vice President after serving as President for 24 years, therefore he chose Kibaki to be his Vice President for ten years.
Festus Mwangi Kiunjuri, Anne Waiguru, and Peter Kenneth are three politicians from central Kenya who are expected to be running mates.
Please leave your thoughts on who you think should be Ruto's running mate in 2022.
