Joseph Magwanga is a Kenyan politician. He was elected to represent the Kasipul Kabondo Constituency in the national assembly during 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. In 2017, he vied for the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat but lost to Cyprian Awiti the current governor. During his tenure as the legislature, he was known for setting water pans, commissioned and raised the level of roads, constructed and gave buses to schools.
Before the 2013 General election, politicians like Governor Cyprian Awiti and the late senator Otieno Kajwang allegedly shared leadership positions in the region.
Awiti from Rachuonyo was elected governor, Kajwang from Suba was voted in the senate position and the Homa Bay region had Women Representative Gladys Wanga, Deputy Governor Hamiltone Orata from Dhiwa.
If the sharing deal still stands, therefore Joseph Oyugi Magwanga stands a better chance to succeed Cyprian Awiti. Joseph Magwanga comes from Kasipul an area in Rachuonyo region.
According to the data and analysis from 2017 IEBC register, the Rachuonyo had 190,780 voters and Homabay had 188,142 voters. Rachuonyo and Homa Bay had three wards each. This is a clear indication that the Rachuonyo people are the majority.
In the Homa Bay Gubernatorial race there are aspirants from each region; John Mbadi from Suba, Gladys Wanga Homabay region, Kidero from Rangwe and Oyugi Magwanga from Rachuonyo. If each region is to vote in block and the sharing still stands therefore Oyugi Magwanga is likely to be the next Governor of Homa Bay.
