Senior Lawyer Declares Ruto's Kenya Kwanza As Majority In Parliament, Rules Out Raila's Azimio

The celebrated constitutional lawyer Steve Ogolla has declared President William Ruto's led Kenya Kwanza Alliance as the majority political formation in the 13th National Assembly.

Mr Ogolla stated that article 108(2) of the constitution provides that Majority Leader is the leader of the largest parliamentary party or coalition of the parties. He noted that Ruto's led Kenya Kwanza umbrella is a coalition of parties that stands to benefit the provisions of article 108(2).

He added that Azimio La Umoja One Kenya on the other hand is a coalition political party which is well interpreted that its legal status is not any different from that of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) or the former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Democratic Party.

"Article 108(2) of the Constitution provides that Majority Leader is the leader of the largest parliamentary party or coalition of parties. Kenya Kwanza is a Coalition of Parties and therefore enjoys the fruits of Article 108(2). Azimio is a Coalition Political Party which means its legal status is not any different from that of ODM or Wiper, except that it is not a parliamentary party. In short, the heavens would fall before Azimio can claim the coveted Leader of Majority" said Lawyer Steve Ogolla.
