The 2022 presidential race to succeed President Kenyatta who is soon exiting the office is already at its peak as the political bigwigs are seen roaming across the streets of the country Kenya campaigning hunting votes ahead of the polls.
This is will be a historical presidential race as it had attracted more than forty contenders which had never witnessed in the past general elections.
Among those leaders warming up to receive the presidency baton from President Kenyatta are: the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Honorable Raila Amollo Odinga, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leader Honorable William Samoei Ruto, the Safina Party presidential candidate Honorable Jimmy Wanjigi and the Murang'a County Govenor Honorable Mwangi Wa Iria.
From the above list of the presidential candidates, the former prime minister Raila Amollo Odinga and Deputy President William Samoei Ruto appear to be the top contenders. This is due to the fact that they have made inroads for their political parties in many parts of the country Kenya.
This is a clear indication that if elections were to be carried today, either Odinga's Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance or Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Alliance would have formed the next government.
Many opinion polls had been conducted concerning the presidential elections. Most of these polls have been giving different results as some put Odinga ahead of Ruto while some put Ruto ahead.
In the latest opinion poll as it is shown below, if elections were to be held today, DP Ruto would have ganged 43.3% of the total votes cast. Odinga would have emerged second with 42.4% of the total votes cast as Kalonzo would have ganged only 4.0% of the total votes cast.
