Martha Koome Karambu Mukokinya was yesterday appointed as the Kenya's Chief Justice by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). Her name will be forwarded to President Kenyatta for official confirmation and appointment.
Kenyans speculated that Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia would be appointed since he has connections with the government. Others thought the JSC vetting process was a mere formality by the state. It was obvious that Kenyans were caught by surprise when they heard that Madam Koome will head Judiciary.
Some Kenyans have taken to social media to protest that the best candidate was shortchanged. They felt that Njagi Marete was won it fairly. Justice Njagi Marete who was among the 10 who were shortlisted gained popularity in the streets of the social media due to his charisma, sense of humor and friendliness.
