Laikipia gubernatorial race has taken a new shape with less than three months left for the August general election with incumbent Governor being shown dust in the race.
The gubernatorial race has attracted various politicians with both Jubilee party and UDA party fielding their best choice in the race, among those in the race include; incumbent Governor Nderitu Mureithi, Ex Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu of UDA,John Wakaba among others in the race.
In the latest opinion poll, Joshua of UDA has emerged the winner at 57.4% as Nderitu Mureithi comes second at a distance with 36.1% followed by John Wakaba at 5.3%. a small portion of residents (0.8%) have not decided on who to vote.
Nderitu Mureithi is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta who in the recent days was appointed as Raila Odinga's presidential top campaign official, Laikipia county is located in Rift Valley region this could answer as to why a Jubilee party candidate has been shown dust with UDA ally emerging the winner in the race and this could as well affect the outcome in the August general elections.
