Ida Odinga is a no stranger in Kenya' s political terrain, the name bearer is a wife ex- NASA chief principal. The former was among Raila' s avid supporters and many are the times she rallied Kenyan voters to throw their gauntlets behind the veteran citing that the latter was the best bet to succeed Kenyatta II and steer the country to greater heights politically, economically and socially.
Going by the reception and support Raila' s 2022 Statehouse course received, Ida was certain that the veteran was bound to be the fifth occupant of the House on the hilltop.
Contrary to her pro- Raila anticipations, 50. 49% of voters threw their lots on Kenya Kwanza principal and this statistically meant that Ida' s dream of being the fifth first lady was impractical for her husband only managed a total of 6. 9 million votes against Ruto' s 7. 1 million votes.
How did Ida' s dream hit a dead end when all looked promising for Agwamb? in a recent media discourse, former Bahati Member of Parliament (MP) shared his opinions giving reason why Raila lost August race to his erst political student.
According to Kimani Ngunjiri's rhetoric, Ida Odinga largely contributed to Raila's loss, how? In one of her periodic visits to Nyanza, Mama Ida called government to regulate establishment of churches by shutting down those that failed to comply with ethical requirements.
Her anti- church establishment sentiment set tongues wagging with Azimio fraternity defending her proposal. Ruto' s side however sided with the church promising to stand with them should the government unleash it' s fangs on them.
According to Kimani, Ida' s sentiment gave UDA party a great mileage which at long run enabled the Ruto- led side to trample Raila' s side. Worth a mention, Ida' s words were echoed by Raila in Nakuru and this according to Ex- MP Kimani gave the wheelbarrow emblemed party over 200, 000 new votes.
