Etale Alleges Why Ruto May Skip Presidential Debate

Deputy President William Ruto has his own reasons for not wanting to participate in the presidential debate, said ODM communications director Philip Etale

The DP, the favorite in the presidential election, has announced that it will not participate in the debate on the grounds that some local TV stations are against it and join in favor of the opponent.

But Etale said that Ruto was simply trying to get away with difficult questions to be asked during the debate and make excuses to avoid having to deal with the questions. He stated that the DP liked to go to sessions where he would be asked absurd questions that he could comfortably answer without rushing.

"The DP wants to skip the presidential debate on National TV so he can participate in the debate that will be held on Facebook by Ahmednasir Abdullahi and Dennis Itumbi on HNIB. He wants simple questions like how did he start raising chickens, how can dirty water be cleaned up," he tweeted.

Ruto also accused several local TV stations on Thursday of joining efforts to ensure he was not elected president by starting to broadcast propaganda aimed at harming him.

His campaign communications director, Hussein Mohamed, said: “In the current partisan media environment, we have advised our candidate not to participate in the presidential debate. Ruto makes his first shot at the presidency and faces several other contenders, including Azimio La Umoja candidate Raila Odinga, his main rival in the long-awaited race.
