Mombasa and Kakamega Gubernatorial Elections Postponed As Chebukati Cites This Reasons

Elections for two governorships in Kakamega and Mombasa, four constituency seats, and two ward vacancies have been put off till further notice, according to the commission's chairperson Wafula Chebukati.

Chebukati drew attention to the fact that crucial commission employees who carried out their jobs at the national tallying center were subjected to intimidation and abuse.

"The staff members are now unable to report to the office today due to fear caused by this. This harassment must end now," said Chebukati.

"Regardless of their political background, we demand the arrest and conviction of these attackers," he stated.

The impacted seats in the National Assembly are those in Pokot South, Kitui Rural, Rongai, and Kacheliba.

Additionally, two electoral ward seats in Kwa Njenga in the Embakasi South constituency and Nyaki West in the North Imenti constituency were impacted.

Due to a ballot paper mix-up, the commission had halted the aforementioned elections on August 8.
