Blow to William Ruto, Raila Odinga as Kalonzo Musyoka Makes a Declaration on 2022 Race

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who also doubles as the Orange Democratice Movement (ODM) party leader, and Deputy President William Ruto have been dealt a major blow following the latest move by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Musyoka made the declaration in a bitter exchange with Johnston Muthama, a former friend now turned enemy, at the funeral of Samuel Mutuku (the son of former politician Mulu Mutisya) yesterday. The duo had met for the first time since their bitter fallout in June, when Muthama ditched Wiper Party to support DP Ruto.

Muthama had claimed Kalonzo had no financial ability to conduct countrywide presidential campaigns, and urged the locals to vote for Ruto in 2022. He went on to claim that there were very few leaders in Kenya, among them Ruto, who were capable and had the 'financial muscle' to conduct presidential campaigns in key regions in the country.

In his response, Musyoka slammed Muthama, claiming that he was the reason behind his misfortunes in the political arena. He said Muthama misadvised senators and hoodwinked him into supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga and not Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2013 elections.

"I want to tell you, Muthama, that I will not let you mislead me for the third time after failing me twice. This time round, I will go alone on the negotiating table when it comes to national politics. I will not deputise William Ruto, neither will I allow myself be led foolishly like a sheep," he said.

The declaration by Musyoka now means that the former premier and the country's second in command will have a difficult task creating formidable alliances in the region, which is believed to be Kalonzo's political stronghold.
