"We Have Two Govts" Leader Forced to Apologize After He Recognized Al-Shabaab as an Alternative Govt

Somaliland traditional leader King Osman Burmadow on Tuesday apologized to the people of Somalia after he had given a controversial statement, suggesting Somalia has two governments, the federal government and al-Shabaab as another government.

The statement attracted sharp reactions from government officials and victims who have suffered under al-Shabaab, forcing Osman to come out and issue a public apology.

According to VOA reporter Harun Maruf, Osman has apologized for his remarks, adding that he regrets his inconsiderate statement.

He has said he jokingly made the statement and did not expect people to perceive him seriously.

He has since sent condolences to all those who were killed by al-Shabaab.

"Somali traditional elder Osman Burmadow apologises for remarks he made this week suggesting the existence of “two governments” in Somalia - the federal govt and Al-Shabaab. Burmadow says he regrets the comment, says it was a “joke”; sends condolences to the victims of AS attacks." the reporter tweeted.
