From the Building bridges initiative Report, 70 new constituencies will be created after the constitution amendment bill passes.
These will be distributed as follows; Nairobi will gain 16, Kiambu 6, Nakuru 5, and finally Kilifi 4 new constituencies.
The second slot of beneficirries are; Bungoma, Kjiado, Narok, Mombasa & Machakos. All these counties have been proposed to have extra three constituencies for each one of them.
In the third slot of beneficiaries; Meru, Kwale, Kakamega, Kisumu, Isiolo, Trans-Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu will each get two extra constituencies.
In the last slot of benefinieries; Kericho,Bomet,Siaya,Homa Bay, Nyamira, Laikipia, Kirinyaga,Turkana, Makueni and Murang'a each will gain one seat.
This means that there will be an addition of 70 members of parliament in the National Assembly which brings the total number of elected legislatures to 360.
The distribution of Constituencies was agreed upon by the BBI committee through a thorough consultative meeting with members of parliament, members of the Senate, and then approved by right Hon Raila Odinga and President H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the recent interview, The IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has disputed this distribution terming it irregular. He further states that the IEBC is the only commission with the mandate to alter the distribution of constituencies and not the BBI Committee.
From the previous Independent Boundaries Review Commission, each of the 290 constituencies, a constituency is supposed to have an average of 133,000 persons.
