The distribution of Constituencies was agreed upon by the BBI committee through a thorough consultative meeting with members of parliament, members of the Senate, and then approved by right Hon Raila Odinga and President H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta.

In the recent interview, The IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has disputed this distribution terming it irregular. He further states that the IEBC is the only commission with the mandate to alter the distribution of constituencies and not the BBI Committee.

From the previous Independent Boundaries Review Commission, each of the 290 constituencies, a constituency is supposed to have an average of 133,000 persons.
