JUST IN: IEBC Suspends August 9 Elections In 4 Wards After Candidates Died 10 Days To The Ballot

It is sad this evening to bring to your attention that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended members of the county assembly (MCA) elections in four wards which are in different counties following sudden demise of the candidates who were cleared to vie.

There demise has now forced IEBC to postpone the elections in these wards until the day new contestants will come out and be cleared by the commission to vie for such posts.

"We shall communicate via a Gazette notice when the said elections will be conducted," Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairperson Wafula Chebukati noted.

The wards which have been affected are;

1. Thaana ward in Mwingi West, Kitui County. The suspension of the Elections came about after the sudden death of candidate Stanley Ngui Muthengi who was vying for an MCA seat in the Ward.

2. Oloimasani ward, Emurua Dikir Constituency in Naroki County. IEBC suspended the elections after MCA candidate Marcelly Kiptonui Kiruy passed away.

3. South Gem in Gem, Siaya County. Elections were suspended after the death of MCA candidate Maurice Nick Otieno Wanga.

4. Utawala ward in Embakasi East in Nairobi County. This came about after the electorates lost their candidate Michael Mwathi Gitonga.
