The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC has announced a fixed date for all presidential candidates to announce their running mates. According to the latest report by the commission's chairman Mr Wafula Chebukati, all presidential candidates must declare their running mates by April 9 this year.
This is coming when IEBC has set tough rules for the August 9 polls to ensure that the highly contested race will be conducted in a free and fair space.

The political parties amendment bill 2020 is however another block to the parties. Having been passed in the national assembly, all eyes are on Senate. If it passes, it will highly change the course and organization of political parties.
However, the challenge has always been on the persons who have already declared their interest in vying on choosing their deputies. These are the leading candidates Raila Odinga of ODM and deputy president William Ruto of UDA. The difficulty in landing on one candidate has risen because of the need to have their camps remaining intact and maintain regional balance.
