The president's two-day official visit to the region was officially welcomed on Thursday at the Kakamega State Lodge by Governors Fernandez Barasa of Kakamega and Wilber Ottichilo of Vihiga. Natembeya said that the Western residents have been suffering and that working together with the government was the best solution to the problem.
"No matter how we voted, there is only one President, William Ruto, and we are all in support of him. Because of the severe poverty in the Western region, please assist us in revitalizing the sugar and maize industries."
His comments come after he and the other 21 Azimio governors skipped the anti-Ruto protests organized by the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance, which were held yesterday at Kamukunji Grounds and were attended by former prime minister Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc Kenya Party, Kalonzo Musyoka, the head of Wiper, and Eugene Wamalwa, a former defence cabinet secretary.
Wamalwa, a member of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), the party Natembeya was elected on, claimed that they are present in Azimio and will maintain Ruto's administration.
