Why The US Congressional Delegation Came To Kenya During Electioneering Period

The US Senator Chris Andrew Coons has been in Kenya leading a congressional Delegation of the US senate and House of Representatives.

The team came during electioneering period when the whole world was interested in knowing the outcome of the very competitive presidential race between Hon. Raila Odinga and the now Presidential elect William Ruto.

Looking at the history Kenya like any other country in the world has been experiencing disputed elections which has led to shade of blood of its citizens. This has led to other nations interventions requesting kenyans to have peaceful elections.

The US congressional delegates has met the key political leaders starting from the out going head of state President Uhuru Kenyatta, President elect William Ruto and Hon. Raila Odinga.

What has emerged from the team is their appreciation to the leaders for having peaceful elections. During the meetings President Uhuru Kenyatta emphasised on steadfastness in entrenching the principles of good governance.

The President Elect William Ruto mentioned on improving on bilateral relationships between the two countries for the benefits of citizens while Hon. Raila Odinga reiterated on commitment to pursue legal means in resolving issues around presidential elections.

This must have been a delegation that has an interest in the well being of kenyans and their political activities in the future, being a democratic country Kenya has shown a high level of maturity in politics where other nations will be coming for their benchmarking in order to learn on how to handle issues that are related to politics.
