Campaigns are getting more intense as the August polls approach. Leaders are crafting new strategies to market their bids. In the presidential race, there are three strong factions that have cropped up namely; Kenya Kwanza Alliance, Azimio la Umoja Coalition and One Kenya Alliance (OKA).
However, things are not that rosy in Azimio la Umoja especially in the ODM wing. This is after infighting started to emerge among party members who are contesting for similar seats.
Kisii Governor, James Ongwae, has been involved in public outbursts with Dagoreti North MP, Simba Arati. While speaking during a rally in Kisii, Ongwae warned Kisii residents on electing Simba as Kisii Governor.
Ongwae said that Simba Arati is from Nairobi and should not be given any space in Kisii county. The governor alleged that Arati will fire all county employees once elected governor, and he will replace them with people from Nairobi.
However, the unapologetic Simba Arati held another rally and dismissed allegations made about him by Ongwae. He termed Ongwae as a failure who should not even associate himself with ODM party. He said that the era of old people is over in Kisii county.
"It is a shame that Kisii residents are still buying water from mikokoteni vendors. Ongwae is a total failure and shouldn't associate with ODM," alluded Arati.
The lawmaker further revealed that Ongwae has been blocking him in ODM meetings. Arati said that the governor has been trying hard to block him from meeting even the party leader Raila Odinga.
"Ongwae has been blocking me from meeting Raila Odinga. Next week, we are expecting Odinga in Kisii. I am daring Ongwae to send his goons as usual, I am ready to face them. I will be taking over the ODM affairs in Kisii county," added Arati.
Kitutu Chache MP, Richard Onyonka, supported Arati's sentiments. He said that Ongwae and Sam Ongeri should retire from Kisii politics. Onyonka will be vying for Kisii senator.
