"Uhuru is Now an MC in Opposition" Ruto's Ally Deconstructs The Handshake as it Turns Four Years Old

Today, March 9 2022, the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ODM Party leader Raila Odinga is turning four years old after it was unveiled on 9th March 2018.

The union that got Kenyans by a surprise has been a thorn in the flesh of Deputy President William Ruto and his allies, most of who claim that it was made to 'oust' the DP from the government.

Speaking on Wednesday with the Nation, Belgut member of parliament Nelson Koech argued that the handshake 'killed' the opposition, and thus the government has no one to hold its accountable.

He added that the union between the two leaders diminished democracy by destroying the ruling party, Jubilee.

"The handshake has undermined the country's status as a multiparty democracy. We have lost the ruling Jubilee party and also the opposition. To quote the DP, it is no longer possible to tell 'whether it is the government that is in opposition or the opposition is in government,' he posed.

He went on to state that the opposition has reduced Uhuru as a Master of Ceremonies in the opposition while Raila has now emerged as a state project ahead of the August elections.

"The leader of Opposition has abdicated his station to become the political project of the president, who has reduced himself to acting as the master of ceremonies in the opposition," he added.
