Despite receiving more votes than other regions that were taken into consideration, the leaders of Turkana county were appalled by President Ruto's choice to not choose any leader from the county for a Cabinet Secretary position.
In order to resolve the conflict in a way that benefits all parties, the leaders speaking at the Mashujaa Day celebration now urged President Ruto to nominate two members of the Turkana community for the position of principal secretaries.
"Tulipigina hii serikali na tukapeana kura mingi sana, hatujafurahi vile tumefanyiwa. Principal Secretaries from Sasa tunafaa kulewa wawili kama jamii ya Turkana. Inatosha Ike kura tulipeana Kwa Serikali ya Kenya" A leader among the Turkanas remarked.
This comes after President Ruto selected Josphat Nanok, a former governor of Turkana and a longtime supporter of his, to the position of deputy chief of staff at the State House. This appointment was not well received by the leaders of Turkana.
The leaders contended that certain counties gave the Kenya Kwanza administration fewer votes than Turkana but had previously been nominated for the position of Cabinet Secretary, which they have now characterized as betrayal.
