Raila Odinga, the head of the ODM, has stated that if he is elected president in 2022, every Kenyan will be covered by medical insurance. On Thursday, during the opening of the KMTC Awendo Campus in Migori County, Odinga underlined that his administration will assist people who are unable to pay their insurance premiums. "We will be able to implement universal healthcare next year, ensuring that every Kenyan citizen is covered. Those who are unable to pay for themselves will be paid for by the government, ensuring that individuals are adequately covered in terms of medical insurance," Odinga stated.
Raila also pledged that medical and health facilities would be renovated so that every sub-county would have a level-five hospital. He also stated that healthcare staff will receive extensive training. "We've also stated that we intend to upgrade all of our health-care facilities, including a level-five hospital in each sub-county. We also want to provide training to our people in all of our sub-counties, which is very essential to us," Odinga stated.
Raila emphasized the importance of healthcare, saying that all efforts will be made to improve the country's health system. "Healthcare is not a charity; it is a necessity for all of our people," he said. "It is unacceptable that our people die from preventable diseases; we are saying that this must stop." Odinga was accompanied by Kisii Governor Ongwae, Kakamega Governor Oparanya, Homa Bay Governor Cyprian, Suba MP Mbadi, and Suna East MP Suna East.
