Setback To Raila As Uhuru's Close Ally Deliberately Refuses To Attend Raila's Mt Kenya Meeting Today

ODM leader Raila Odinga has been doing rounds around the country as he looks to consolidate more votes ahead of next year's general elections. The former Prime Minister is among a host of candidates who have registered their interest in taking over from President Kenyatta when his term comes to an end in 2022.

He is set to face off with Deputy President William Ruto who, according to many, he is the man to beat. The race also includes the likes of Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi, and Rueben Kigame.

Raila's main focus in the last few months has been the Mt Kenya region where the Deputy President has been pitching his tread for the last four years.

The ODM leader is scheduled to meet Mt Kenya east voters today as he embarks on his Azimio la Umoja venture. It has now emerged that Mt Kenya east kingpin Peter Munya will not be part of the entourage that will be welcoming Raila.

According to a local daily, Munya has vowed to miss the meetings since he does not want to share the podium with his long-term rival Kiraitu Murungi. The Meru governor has been tasked with welcoming Raila. He will be assisted by his Tharaka Nithi counterpart Muthomi Njuki.

The decision by Munya not to attend the meeting will no doubt raise further questions on his loyalty to the President.

Meanwhile, share with us your thoughts on the matter kindly.
