What Governor Kawira has Cleverly Done Just a day After Impeachment That Might Land MCAs in Trouble

Barely three months after being in office, Meru county has become the first county assembly to impeach its governor hon Kawira Mwangaza.

67 out of the 69 members of the county assembly voted in support of the motion which was tabled by the member for Abogeta west ward hon DMK Kiogora.

The impeachment was affirmed by the speaker of the county assembly hon Ayub Bundi Solomon.

"Honourable members, I wish to declare that the Governor of Meru Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza stands impeached by the Meru County Assembly," Speaker of Meru county assembly Ayub Bundi Solomon said.

This is despite the move by the court to stop the impeachment motion on November 30th.

The speaker is also expected to table the impeachment to the speaker of the senate for further action.

After receiving the impeachment motion, the speaker of the senate hon Amason Jefferson Kingi is expected to convene a house sitting within seven days to hear the charges against the governor.

However, things are turning nasty for the Meru county assemblies after what the governor is cleverly doing through her supporters to ensure that the members of the county assembly pay dearly for the mess they are planning for the county.

This is after a section of voters in the county started collecting signatures to petition the head of state to suspend the county government.

This is to the Kenyan Constitution which allows voters to petition by collecting 10% of the signatures of the registered votes if the county has failed in its mandate to the people.

When the president receives this petition and is approved by the budget and economic committee, he forms an inquiry commission comprised of six members.

The report by the committee is then tabled to the senate consideration and if approved the president suspends the county assembly putting the county on the caretaker board before an election is conducted.

If it goes this way, things might turn nasty for Meru members of the county assembly since they might be forced to go to the electorate and seek a fresh mandate.
