As it races to reach Tuesday's deadline, the electoral commission has made alterations to the presidential results verification process at the national tallying facility in Bomas, Kenya.
Wafula Chebukati, the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), stated that they have reversed the process to expedite the verification of results from returning officers.
Initially, Returning Officers were expected to present the results to the National Returning Officer after passing through verification desks.
Mr. Chebukati stated that one Returning Officer takes between three and four hours to process. Only 141 of the 265 returning officers have been processed, leaving 124 waiting.
The new verification procedure, according to the head of the IEBC, will ensure quicker processing of results and enable the body to satisfy constitutional deadlines for processing presidential election results.
